Invasion
As Britain entered the second world war it saw the Nazi war machine employing new Blitzkrieg tactics leading to the evacuation of the British Expeditionary Force from Dunkirk, France. This shocked the British into action and work began on defences for the looming threat of a Nazi invasion.
This project looks at some of the defences still left in our landscape as a reminder of the threat that was on Britain's door step. Stop-Lines were formed around the coast designed to slow any Nazi advance although defences where never thought to be strong enough to hold out against any real push by the Nazi army. Seven basic pill box designs where issued by the Directorate of Fortifications. Often materials where short or locations difficult so variations and custom builds can be found along side the standard designs.
